Product Description

For most practices, the question isn’t whether a screener works — it’s whether it fits the exact program you run. The Optec 5000 answers that through its slide packages. The instrument itself delivers a consistent, repeatable battery — distance and near acuity (monocular and binocular), color vision, stereopsis, the astigmatic clock, and lateral and vertical phorias — and the slide package you choose tailors it to preschool vision days, occupational and industrial testing, driver rehabilitation, or general ophthalmic prescreening. One 5000 can cover several of those roles as your library grows past 150 available slides.

This is the manual-control model without the peripheral test, which keeps it lean and affordable for clinics, schools, and screening programs that don’t need field testing. If your protocol does require a peripheral vision test, that capability lives in the Optec 5000P — but for straight acuity-and-function screening, the 5000 is the efficient choice, letting ancillary staff run a full patient in roughly three minutes.

Under the hood it shares the platform’s strengths: an LED lighting system with no bulbs to age or replace, illumination built to meet ANSI target-illuminance standards, and two independent viewing ports that simulate a 20-foot distance target and an 18-inch near target. The washable, scratch-resistant ABS housing weighs under 15 lbs and needs only about two square feet of bench space, so it moves easily between rooms or out to mobile screening events.

Optimetrics has supplied ophthalmic equipment since 1987 and backs the Optec 5000 with a 2-year warranty; units are built to order with a 2–3 week lead time. Pick the slide package that matches your program — Patti Pic, Michigan Preschool, H.O.T.V., Industrial, Driver Rehabilitation, International, or Ophthalmic Prescreening — and add it to your order. This unit is configured for export and is pickup only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Optec 5000 include a peripheral vision test?

No. The Optec 5000 is the manual-control model without peripheral testing. It screens acuity, color, depth perception, astigmatism, and phorias. If you need a built-in peripheral vision test, the Optec 5000P is the model to choose.

Which slide packages are available for the Optec 5000?

Seven standard packages: Patti Pic, Michigan Preschool, H.O.T.V., Industrial, Driver Rehabilitation, International, and Ophthalmic Prescreening. Each contains a set of test slides, and you can expand to a custom library of more than 150 slides.

Can the Optec 5000 screen young or pre-literate children?

Yes. With the Patti Pic, Michigan Preschool, or H.O.T.V. slide packages, the 5000 uses picture and matching optotypes suitable for young and pre-literate children, making it a strong fit for preschool and pediatric screening programs.

Does the Optec 5000 use bulbs, and is it standards-compliant?

It uses an LED lighting system, so there are no bulbs to replace, and its illumination is built to meet ANSI target-illuminance standards for consistent, repeatable screening.

What is the lead time and warranty, and how do I order?

The Optec 5000 is built to order with a 2–3 week lead time and includes a 2-year warranty. Select your slide package and add it to your order, or contact Optimetrics at +1 (305) 542-7556 or sales@optimetrics.com for help choosing the right configuration.
