Optec 5500 Vision Testing System
Not every practice needs a peripheral field test — but every operator benefits from not reaching over the patient forty times a day. That’s the Optec 5500’s argument. Its attached remote-control pad advances slides and steps through the full screening sequence, so ancillary staff can run distance and near acuity (monocular and binocular), color vision, stereopsis, the astigmatic clock, and phorias in about three minutes, all from a comfortable seated position beside the patient.
This is the remote-control model without peripheral testing, which places it a clear step above the manual-control Optec 5000 in ease of use while keeping the price below the peripheral-equipped 5500P. If your protocols later require peripheral field screening, the 5500P adds exactly that on the same platform — but for high-volume acuity-and-function screening, the 5500 hits the sweet spot of speed and value.
The fundamentals are the proven Optec design: color-corrected LED illumination with no bulbs to replace, brightness built to meet ANSI target-illuminance standards, and two independent viewing ports simulating a 20-foot distance target and an 18-inch near target.
