2-Year Warranty · Available in 2–3 Weeks · Pickup Only
The Optec 5500P is Stereo Optical’s top-of-line vision screener: the full comprehensive battery plus a peripheral vision test, driven by an attached remote control instead of manual dials. The examiner runs the entire sequence from the pad — no reaching across the patient — while color-corrected LED illumination keeps color testing accurate. ANSI-compliant, built to order with a 2-year warranty. Choose your slide package below and add to cart.
The 5500P is built around the examiner’s hands. Its attached remote-control pad advances slides and steps through the entire screening sequence, so an operator can run acuity, color, depth, phorias, and the astigmatic clock without leaning over the patient or reaching around the unit. In a busy exam room that ergonomic difference is what lets ancillary staff move a full patient through in about three minutes — and it keeps the operator at a comfortable, hygienic distance throughout.
On top of that workflow, the 5500P delivers the peripheral vision test that occupational, DOT, and driver programs require: a horizontal peripheral field with flashing-light stimuli at temporal and nasal positions, built to meet ANSI standards. Color vision testing benefits from color-corrected light, and the same unit screens under monocular, binocular, near, distance, and intermediate conditions. It is, by design, the model practices choose when they want one screener that does everything.
The platform underneath is the proven Optec design: an LED lighting system with no bulbs to replace, illumination that meets ANSI target-illuminance requirements, and two independent viewing ports simulating a 20-foot distance target and an 18-inch near target. The washable, scratch-resistant ABS housing weighs under 15 lbs and needs only about two square feet of space, so even this flagship stays portable between rooms and sites.
Optimetrics has supplied ophthalmic equipment since 1987 and backs the Optec 5500P with a 2-year warranty; units are built to order with a 2–3 week lead time. Each 5500P includes the remote control, accessory kit, and one standard 12-slide package — pick from Patti Pic, Michigan Preschool, H.O.T.V., Industrial, Driver Rehabilitation, International, or Ophthalmic Prescreening — with a custom library of 150+ slides available. This unit is configured for export and is pickup only.
Key features
Attached remote control — run the full screening sequence from the pad, hands-free of the unit
Peripheral vision test included (horizontal field, temporal and nasal stimuli)
What is the difference between the Optec 5500P and the Optec 5000P?
Both run the same comprehensive screening battery and include the peripheral vision test. The key upgrade in the 5500P is an attached remote control that drives the whole screening sequence, plus color-corrected illumination — where the 5000P uses manual control.
How does the peripheral vision test on the Optec 5500P work?
It presents a horizontal peripheral field using flashing-light stimuli at temporal and nasal positions and is built to meet ANSI standards. This makes the 5500P suitable for DOT, occupational, and driver-screening programs that require a peripheral field check.
Can staff run the Optec 5500P without reaching over the patient?
Yes. The attached remote-control pad lets the operator advance slides and complete the full sequence from a comfortable distance, which speeds up screening and keeps the examiner clear of the patient throughout the test.
Which slide packages are available, and can the 5500P test children?
Seven standard packages are available — Patti Pic, Michigan Preschool, H.O.T.V., Industrial, Driver Rehabilitation, International, and Ophthalmic Prescreening. Patti Pic and Michigan Preschool use picture and matching optotypes suited to young or pre-literate children. A custom library of 150+ slides is also available.
