The HFA3 Model 840 is configured for exactly that reality: it delivers the perimetry that drives clinical decisions — SITA threshold strategies, the full static and kinetic test library, and Guided Progression Analysis — without the premium hardware options that only a subset of practices actually use.

Test reliability is handled automatically. The 840 includes gaze tracking and head tracking as standard, so patient fixation and position are monitored throughout acquisition and reflected in the reliability indices rather than left to operator judgment. Auto pupil measurement and foveal threshold are also standard, which matters when you are documenting central sensitivity or working with patients whose pupil size varies between visits.

Guided Progression Analysis is standard across the entire HFA3 range, and it is the reason this instrument holds its clinical value. GPA compares each new field against an established baseline, identifies which test points are changing, and quantifies the rate of loss — the data a clinician needs to decide whether current therapy is holding. Baselines can be reset as the clinical picture evolves, and results are reviewed alongside the complete patient test history.

The 840 uses the SmartTouch touchscreen interface shared across the HFA3 platform, which shortens operator training time in practices where several technicians rotate through the perimetry lane. Legacy data transfers in from HFA II and HFA II-i instruments, so replacing an older unit does not break the longitudinal record, and the instrument connects to ZEISS FORUM for centralized review with other ZEISS diagnostic data. This unit ships with its instrument table, so the lane is ready to run on installation. Practices that specifically need the automated Liquid Trial Lens, the RelEYE fixation monitor or blue-on-yellow SWAP testing should look at the Model 860 instead — those features are not part of the 840 configuration.
